For these two images relating to the word pencil, I had used pencil sharpening's. The top image I had glued down the actual colour part of a pencil, to the top of the pencil drawing as that is where that part is from, and then glued down the wooden pencil sharpening's down. For the second image I had spread some glue down on the paper and went around asking people for their pencil sharpening's so i could stick them down.

Studio Brief 1- Set, Series, Sequence
I had used markers to create these two pictures, as I like the way they give you clean bold lines, and are great when using them for a large space like the first image of close up of a pencil, and the mans hair in the second image.

Studio Brief 1- Set, Series, Sequence
Here is another 5 images I had created for the Set, Series, Sequence brief, where I have to draw 24 pictures relating to the word pencil. For these 5 images I had used ink, I really liked using ink as you can make the shading really light or make it bold, I thought using this medium for a really quick process too.

For these 3 pictures I had used make up products, such as lip liner pencil, eye liner pencil and a eyebrow pencil. I really enjoyed drawing these pictures with make up products as it is more creative than drawing with normal pencils, or using fine liners.

With in this brief, we was given the task to produce 24 images that was related to our word that we had picked out of a hat. My word hat I had picked was pencil, above is just 5 out of 24 pictures that I have drew relating to my word. My first image is a pencil dressed in a lederhosen, this is because the pencil i was drawing with had written on it, made in Germany. My other 4 images are use with coloured pencils, Pencil skirt, a set of pencils, a pencil that has drawn on the paper and pencil markings.

Studio Brief 1-Process and Production
This is a short animation I had done of a ball bouncing off a wall, I had created this by marking out a path, this would help me to know where the ball was going to be bouncing and how high the ball would bounce. Secondly I had marked down timing, This was to show me at what point the ball was to be at the path. And finally using frame by frame I had drew out using the help from my path and timing layers, I was able to create the ball bouncing.

Flipbooks gives us the illusion of animating as someone quickly flips through the pages of the book. Flipbook animation is were an animator will draw a series of pictures throughout the book and as someone flips through each page the sequence of images in the flipbook will move. The faster you flip through the pages the more smoothly the animation will look.

Stop motion animation, is an animation that captures one frame at a time with the use of physical objects that can be moved. The process of this animation is to take photographs of each movement that is made, so that it creates the illusion that, that objects have moved by its self. Stop motion can be found everywhere such as music videos, films and adverts.

Rotoscoping is a form of animation, were the animators will draw frame by frame over footage, this can be seen in The Gorilaz music videos, for example their music video Dare. In this music video the majority of the video is animated but the footage of Shaun Ryder's head has been filmed and then it has been rotoscoped. Max Fleischer was the inventor of the rotoscoping, he would have live footage films playing behind a panel of frosted glass so that he would be about to draw over the footage.

The magic lantern was created in the 17th century, and was basically a projector that would use sheets of glass with pictures on them. This machine was mainly used for entertainment and education uses. Moses Holden was the man who had created The magic lantern, he created this early projector for the use of his lectures.

Cel animation is a traditional for of animation, that is used in the production of cartoon or films. Cel animation is what animators used to create 2D animations before, animators started using computers. The process of this animations involves drawing images that are slightly different and then tracing the images on to transparent sheets of cel paper, but this method of animating takes so long because its so time consuming.

EVALUATION
For my animation based on the brief, Studio Brief 1- The other side, I have based my animation on spirits because its the other side of life. I started to research into animations that reference the other side, such as the book of life, as in Mexico they celebrate the death of their loved ones with bright coloured flowers, candles and day of the dead most iconic symbol sugar skulls. I also looked into the animation, The princess and the frog, with in this animation, the film references the other side, which is portrayed as a dark spiritual side. I used both of these animations as my inspiration towards my animation because I used the theme of Day of the dead and the dark spiritual side.
After I had decided on my theme for my animation I then started to research into grave stones on the celebration of Day of the dead, my research can be found in my mood boards where I collected images I had found off Pintrest. This research had helped me loads as I then knew I had to include the vibrant bright colours, which I included in my drawing of the sugar skull. My research for the dark side with the spirits, again I had looked at images on Pintrest on how I could gather ideas on how to draw my spirits in my animation.
Once I had done enough research for me to start drawing up my initial ideas, I started to then draw up some graves in which I wanted to be in my animation and started to draw my designs of the sugar skulls. I had drew up both a light and dark side, sugar skulls which will represent life and death. after completing this animation I now know not to include colour gradients to something that has so much detail, As it made animating slightly more difficult for myself. In the future i plan to stick block colours, although I would keep to having the background as a gradient as it adds depth with in your animation.
I was given feedback on the candle that I would need something written on it, to make my animation more clear. Using this back really helped me with my animation, as without this text added on to the candle my animation wouldn't make sense and would be very unclear to the audience.
after I had drawn my storyboard and my sugar skulls, i needed to plan how to move the hand into the scene. doing this I had to take pictures of my hand holding an object so i could sketch them out. doing this really helped me know how the hand had to bent and how the hand in my animation would be holding the skull. In the future if moving a hand in a similar way to this animation, I think i know what steps to take in the process of doing so and will be easier for me.
The main problems I came across in this brief was, animating the paint drops, dropping off the skull and having the paint on the step moving it way back up towards the skull, In future animations I now know not to animation great detail with colour gradients and having paint dropping as the process of this felt very long. I am extremely happy with how my animation has turned out, and happy with how all the movements throughout my animation run smoothly, also if I could go back and change anything out of my animation, I would changed the text font on my candle to something easier to read.

Studio Brief 1- Process and Production
This is my final animation on the brief The other side. I am really happy with the way it has turned out especially with the scenes were the hand is placing the skull down on top of the candle, as that scene probably took me the longest to animate and the scene were the paint is dripping of the skull on to the steps as I made the mistake of trying to animate the paint drops with colour gradient.
When adding sound to my animation, I had used adobe premiere, so then i could edit my sound effects, which I had done on the background noise to lower the sound so it wasn't too loud and I had edited it by making the sound fade out towards the ending of my animation. I chose not to include the sound clip of Disney's Princess and the frog song, iv'e got friends on the other side, because I felt asif it wouldn't of really fitted in well with my animation.
Studio Brief 1- Process and Production
Finally before rendering my animation I went back to add flames to the wood splint that lights the candle, this didn't go as well as i wanted it too, as i had key framed the hand moving across i then had to animate in one's to move the flame of the splint with every slight movement of the hand. I had drawn out five different flames for each shape of it and then went back to duplicate each one in order. This just means that the flame its self place back over its self.

Studio Brief 1- Process and Production
Animating this scene where the paint will move back up off the step back to its original position within the sugar skull detail, was a lot more easier for myself as not only was i animating with solid colours but with not as many as the other scene with the lot more colourful skull, as this skull only has the main 4 colours,
Studio Brief 1- Process and Production
This scene is when animating with colour gradients became the most difficult and time consuming as for every paint drip in every frame i then had to continue with adding gradients to the detail. Animating this scene alone has now made me realise not to include colour gradients to my animation if it involves a lot of movement.
Studio Brief 1- Process and Production
Again this is a shot from the third scene in my animation where the sugar skull has just been placed down and you can see the full detail of the skull. I am really happy with the way this scene looks and especially with the way the skull looks but again adding colour gradients to the detail of the skull made animating this scene more time consuming and more difficult for myself.
Studio Brief 1- Process and Production
This is the third scene in my animation where the hand moves in and places the sugar skull upon the candle. I really enjoyed animating this scene as its probably has the most movement throughout my animation, the only thing I would say became a problem was adding colour to each frame as i had added gradients on both the hand and the detail in the sugar skull.
Studio Brief 1- Process and Production
This is a screen shot of my second scene in my animation, where a hand will move in and light the candle. when animating this scene i was given feedback that I would need text on the candle to tell the story more in case anyone wasn't sure on what was going on. The problems I have come across when animating this scene was I had placed the candle too far towards the edge of the animation so they are not in the correct guidelines. I plan to fix this scene correctly at a later date. Another problem I have come across when animating this scene is that, the font on the candle doesn't look right and it may also be a problem for people who have reading difficulties such as dyslexia. I plan to take in all the feedback I was given towards this scene in animation and resolve them by moving the candle and changing the font, to a font that is more appropriate.

Line test
These are a few screen shots of my line test that I had done, to test out my scene in my animation for The other side. this scene involves a hand moving in and placing a sugar skull upon a lit candle.
to create this scene I had to take pictures of my own hand moving in the way that I wanted the hand in this scene to move, I the drew out each key frame in my sketchbook to then give me a better idea of how it would look, and finally drawing this scene on animation paper and scanning it in so i could draw each key point on illustrator.

These are the drawings I had done in my sketchbook for the main key frames for the scene in my animation.
When reading the Animators survival kit I came across how to animate a foot when running, I thought this would be helpful when animating my scene where the hand moves in and places the skull down as i wanted the hand to look as if it was moving in a similar way where the hand moves up and then slowly places the skull down. This also helped me by showing me how many key frames was to be needed to animate this scene.
