Studio Brief 2- Idents

After deciding that I wanted to create a Tv ident that was relevant towards the shows that E4 play, I searched on their website what Tv programmes  they actually show, now I could possible do an alien ident soon as there is a programme called The aliens, but soon as there is already an ident similar im not going to go with that idea, But I also seen that they show the programme tattoo fixers which I could do an ident for as they havent done a tattoo one yet.

Studio Brief 2- Idents

I really loved this idea of having aliens or UFOs for my E4 ident as I really like all things related to aliens, but personally I would want my Tv ident to be relevant to the shows that E4 show on their channel but after watching a few of E4's idents I know that ive got to keep to a purple colour theme.

Studio Brief 2- Idents

For my second ident, I am thinking about creating an ident for E4 this is just one of of their idents that they have created in the past, I really like the look of this animation as it starts off quite slow but then changes to were its so much more interesting as the colours become brighter and they have this robot man trying to kill these other characters.

Studio Brief 2- Idents

This Ident for Disney Jr shows different characters as different letters and personally think its a really creative idea and it will stand out so much to young children as they will recognize what letter is what character even though they only have similar aspects. Thinking about colour schemes for a children's ident is pretty simple, Bright colours that will work well with others, I think after watching a few of Disney's past Tv ident's that have been create have given me a pretty goof idea of what colour to use, such as blues, pinks, yellow, purple, reds, and greens, Because it has to be eye catching to small children.

Studio Brief 2- Idents

This was another one of Disney Jr's Tv ident's which had given me the idea of maybe changing the Junior letters to characters, but again its all been done and I feel as if  I am struggling with such a creative block for the Disney Ident as so much has already been done before.

Studio Brief 2- Idents

For this new brief I have chosen to do idents, and Disney jr will be one out of the two animations that I will be doing, This video is just one of the many Tv idents that Disney has created. After watching this I could go one or two ways, I could carry on and create an animation with these similar mickey mouse shapes bouncing around, or I could try and create something completely different. Although i would prefer to create an animation completely different I think it would be quite hard to do as Disney has done so many, in so many different ways.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

In this video of the making of Blackwater gospel, it shows us a range of different character development that they used before animating such as different mouths for the tramp before deciding on the final one, it also shows you quick turn around's of the character that shows us the full scale of the character from every perspective. for watching this video to then seeing the short clips within the video you can see how the animators have referenced their development with this character especially with his expressions when the mob of people try to kill him.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

Paranorman

The paranorman character sheets were one of the first that I had seen. When it come down to me creating my character sheets such as the 2/3rd pose and key poses sheet that show bodily expressions, they were a big help as they gave me an idea of what I had to do and how they should look like, although my bodily expression sheet will show different poses, ones that are suitable of my character.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

UP

In the film Up, it shows you different stages of Carl and Ellie's life up until they are both old, These images show some of the character development for the character Carl, this development will give the animators an idea of what Carl would look like at that certain age. The film also refers back to this development when showing this scene of  the different stages of his life.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

These images are the concept art of the film Wreck it Ralph, by looking at these images you can see the amount of development that has gone into creating the final character, from going to a short, chubby character to a troll to designs were it slightly resembles Ralph. I really like how not only have these concept art designs shown extensive development but shown emotions throughout their designs.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

Coraline

Emotions

Black and white/ colour

key poses

After researching into character design , I came across the character development of the stop motion film Coraline, these three images show different processes, I have chosen these three as I am doing the same character development processes as these. I especially like the key poses design as it really gives you a great idea of  perspective between the two characters and how they interact with day to day surroundings. For the emotions development I like how not only have they done the character facing forward but also showing emotions from the side of the characters face. The emotion development also translates well in the film as you can see the emotions on that the character, you can see how they have used that development sheet as a reference when creating the faces.

Study Task 3- You spin me right round

This is my 360 turn of my character, were is shows 12 different view points of her turning around and looped 4 times. Creating this 360 turn around was quite difficult to me as I couldn't figure out at first how my character would look facing the different directions, I think that I could improve in the future with more practice because on this turn around my character slightly moves up and down throughout some of the frames. When I come to do another turn around in the future I will experiment more on how the character looks in different directions instead of just going straight into creating it.

Induction Task- Workshops

In our Dragonframe induction we made our 360 turn using our actual character models. The first thing we had to do was place our character on a stand that turns, in front of a blue screen, placing out character in front of a blue or green screen makes it easier when keying out the background to add a different background in. Then we had to take 12 images of are character turning around using dragonframe. After we had the images ready we could add them to after effects as a tiff sequence, we then had to key out the background and adjust the effects used to key out the background. Before we added our own backgrounds we had to put a mask around the stand that our character was standing on, because then you would still be able to see it once we added our own backgrounds. I decided to chose a Forrest background as one of my key poses for my character was that she likes to play in the leaves.

Induction Task- Workshops

In the wood workshops we got the chance to make our characters into wooden puppets. In the process of making our puppets we had to first draw out the outline of the head, body, arms and legs so then they can all be cut out using the machines available. After all the pieces were cut out of the square block of wood that we were given, I then had to drill a hole in the bottom on the head and the top of the body, I had done this so then the head overlaps the body to make it look as if my puppet has a hunch. Then to attach the arms and legs to the body I had to use little hooks that I then squashed close so that the arms and legs wouldn't fall off.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

This is my concept art that I had drew out after creating my final character Kress. I had tried to design characters that had different body shapes, on the first drawing I wanted the character to be huge with a big head I quite like this character although her face looks quite weird. The other two characters that I had drawn are completely different from each other as one of them is really tall and skinny whereas the other one is small and quite chubby. Designing these other characters I tried to change their hairstyles and clothes too.

Introduction Task- Workshops

This is the finished model of my character Kress. I had finished off my using Plasticine all over my character to create her facial features, hair and clothes. I am really pleased with how it had turned out, and how much it actually looks like my character design. I had to use oil on my model to smooth out the Plasticine because were I had been modelling her, it looked quite rough.

Introduction Task- Workshops

Although these are not my images, these are the materials used to help create my character. The milliput is used by taking a equal amount of both blue and yellow pieces, doing this will mean that the milliput will dry and become hard, I had used the milliput on my characters feet as there was screws inn the centre of them, so that I could then late screw her into the wooden board. The top image is the same Styrofoam that we had used. I had used the Styrofoam for my head and body of my model, to the get the shape of my character, I cut and carved the shape using a craft knife. Once the Styrofoam was glued on we had to cover the model in masking tape so that the Palestine would stick to it.

You are able to see the milliput on my characters feet, where I had to put it on over the screws that where in the center of the feet. and the masking tape that covered the wire so then the Plasticine would stick better to it.

Introduction Task- Workshops

Starting our workshops where we were modeling our characters, the first step we had to do was build the skeleton of the character using wire, measuring it up to our drawings of our characters, we measured it up to the drawings so then we are sure the legs, body and arms ect...will be the correct length. we used a 2 meter wire and then doubled it up so the wire would be thicker and wouldn't snap as we bent it to be the correct shape. This image is the skeleton of my character before I had bent the arms so that it would make hands.

Introduction Task- Workshops

This is the outline drawing of my character that helped me to make my amateur. On this drawing i had marked out where the wire would go and how long the wire would have to be for the skeleton for my character, I have also marked where I would add milliput to build up a bit of muscle on the wire and use it to secured the screws that would be added to my amateurs feet so she will be able to stand up on the wooden board that we had made in a previous workshop. Finally for the body I have only marked down where I would need to add Styrofoam to build up the body and the head.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

This is my colour and black and white character design sheet, this sheet shows the colour scheme I wanted my character to be as I think green and blue colours really work well together. The back and white character I had used as reference when designing my character as to where I would have shaded and which parts of her would be light.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

This is my first set of key poses as I pan to do more. I decided to draw my character doing these main 5 key poses as it shows how weird my characters personality really is, not only that but it shows what my characters interests are and some of her activity's,  I plan do draw more key poses of my character doing more day to day activities.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

This is my 2/3rd pose sheets. Drawing out these 5 different positions really helped my get an idea of how big i wanted my characters head/ body to be, especially knowing we had to create our models using Plasticine. Using the 2/3rd pose also really helped me when it came down to creating my 360 turn around of my character.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

This is my T-pose drawing for my character. I have shown the front and back of  her to get an idea of how she will look from both sides whilst in this pose. Using this pose helps a lot, because it gives you an idea of how long the arms should be so that they're the right size for your character.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

This drawing was just to measure how many head heights my character is, when measured my character is 2 and a half head height.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

After I have decided on where the face was getting placed, the next thing I had drawn was multiple facial expressions. the forth one is my favorite as it makes my character look as if she has a awkward smile, which I think fits her personality as she is quite weird.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

This is my extreme design sheet, where I have positioned the facial features in different parts of the head. I personally think the forth drawing works best as the face is placed in the middle which gives my character a big forehead, and the facial features are squashed in one place.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

The next thing I had done in the process of creating my character was deciding how which body shape is best suited with my character's weirdly shaped head, Even though I wanted my character to be big chested, I think the first two drawings, her chest is to big, and on the third drawing I don't think my character looks quite right as she is very broad shouldered. The last drawing is my favorite as she is curvy and because the body is quite short it makes her head look bigger which I like.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

I started off drawing out six different shaped heads to get an idea of which one looks best for my character, I decided to choose the first design as the head shape works the best with how I want the hair.

Study Task 2- Captain Character

This is my character sheet that shows a short description of my character and her personality. This is will help me in the process of creating my character, and i plan to use this as reference when drawing and designing my character in the future.

Studio Brief 1- Set, Series, Sequence

For my last set of 4 images, the third medium I had used was ink, again I loved using ink for some of my images for the 24 pictures of a pencil. I love how the different shades of red give it so much detail in the drawing of where the light and dark parts are of the pencil man.

Studio Brief 1- Set, Series, Sequence

I have decided to carry on with using the same four view points, but using different mediums for each set. I have chosen the mediums which I liked the best when drawing the 24 images of pencils. For this set I have used coloured pencils, but unlike the first time I had used them on the other images for this brief, the colours dont look right as the pencil its self looks too yellow and doesn't look right.
